Acceptable Use Policy


Videotron Business Solutions' Acceptable Use Policy aims at protecting Videotron, its customers and the Internet community in general against activities that are contrary to netiquette and, in some cases, illegal.

Uses permitted / prohibited

Any activity that prohibits someone else to enjoy fully his Internet access or that infringes on his rights is prohibited.

Content

The following are prohibited on, or originating from, Videotron's network :

  • transmitting, storing or distributing :
    • material that is legally protected (by copyright, trademark, trade secret, etc.), without proper authorization;
    • viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware, or any material used to make them.
  • obscene or defamatory content;
  • sending unsolicited e-mail (« junk mail », « spam »);
  • « excessive crossposting » on Usenet;
  • using or setting an « open » server, such as a mail relay or a proxy (these servers are allowed provided that they are configured in such a way as to limit their access only to the users of the Customer).

Network Security

The following or similar activities are forbidden :

  • probing, scanning, vulnerability testing, illegal access or attempt thereof;
  • interfering with the service to a user, a system, a host or a network; denial of service (DoS) attacks : mailbomb, flood, system overload, vulnerability exploit;
  • altering or forging of TCP, mail or Usenet headers (« spoofing ») to conceal identity (This provision is not intended to disallow the use of aliases when and where it is a common practice).

Coverage of the Policy

This Policy applies to any and all user of Videotron's network, whether or not they have a direct contract with Videotron. Each customer has the responsibility to see to it that his end-users / customers respect this AUP.

The spirit of the Policy is to be considered. Any technical detail herein is only an example. The list is neither exhaustive nor restrictive.

Consequences

All events reported or detected are investigated.

Videotron may involve, and will cooperate with, law enforcement authorities, if need be.

Violation of this AUP may result in partial or total suspension of the Service, temporarily or permanently. In accordance with the sections Use of the services and Interruption and Termination, included as provided for in the Terms of Services attached to Videotron's standard contracts, the following actions may be taken to enforce this Policy :

  • removal of illegal documents;
  • access filtering;
  • temporary Service suspension;
  • termination of the Agreement according to the procedure set forth in the latter.

The technical representative of the customer will be informed of any derogatory activity and will be given a reasonable delay to remedy. However, in all cases, Videotron reserves the right to take any action, without prior notice, to protect itself, its network, customers, installations and equipments.

If an illegal activity does not originate for Videotron's network, please contact the originating ISP.

To report an incident, please send an e-mail to abuse@videotron.net. Be sure to include all relevant information that will enable us to track the incident :

  • date, time and time-zone of the incident;
  • originating IP address;
  • details of the infraction (firewall log; copy of message, e-mail, including all headers, etc.).

* Dial-up Internet service: 20 hours a month; each additional hour is billed at $1/hour. Long-distance charges may apply. Use that goes over the monthly data transfer capacity of 500 gigabytes (downloads and uploads combined) will be billed at $1.50 per additional gigabyte, with no monthly billing limit. [4] A 56-Kbps modem is recommended in order to use the dial-up Internet service. Our equipment is V.90-compatible.
